PROCESS
STACK AND STITCH
To some, the land draws a sense of adventure and renewal. One exposure alone may fall short in representing the vastness and complexities of such environments, so I capture the land in multiple exposures. It also pushes the boundaries of “captured” time and ultimately disrupts the traditional picture plane creating a fractured pictorial experience left open for interpretation. The multiple images depict movement within the frame to suggest not just one moment but many. The relationship of each exposure overlaps into the next creating layers of possible experiences. Some areas of an image find symbiotic relationship from one exposure to the next while others create stark transitions and tension. This process allows the coded message to lead the visual journey over the non-coded content of the image. Over thirty separate images are compiled, stitched, and stacked to make one final photograph. The anchor, or focal point, in the picture plane finally allows the viewer to ground their visual experience and interpret the photograph through their own lexicon of personal and cultural experience.
